Twenty-one letters, and why that matters
There is no j, k, w, x or y in an Italian word. They appear only in names and in words borrowed from elsewhere, and an Italian child learns them separately, at the end. They are in this pack, at the end, for exactly that reason. Most alphabet packs sold as “Italian” are the English alphabet with Italian words bolted on, and a child who learns it that way has to unlearn it at school.
Written for the parent who does not speak Italian
Most alphabet packs assume you already know how the letters sound. This one does not. Every letter has its Italian name written out, and a sound note in ordinary English. c and g soften before e and i — casa is “KAH-za” but cena is “CHEH-na”. h has no sound at all; its entire job is to keep c and g hard. r is rolled with the tip of the tongue. There is a two-page table you can keep beside you while you work, and the spelling rules written out in full.

- Parents’ guide — how to use the pack without turning it into a test, plus a full table of every letter: its name, what it sounds like in plain English, an example word and its translation.
- The alphabet, one page per letter — big upper and lower case, the letter’s name to say out loud, four ruled rows (two to trace, two to write alone), then a picture, the example word with its first letter marked, and the word to trace underneath.
